EPURON inaugurates another megawatt plant in southern Spain

  • Powers 1,200 households and saves around 4,000 tonnes of CO2
  • First solar plant that uses Conergy’s SolarOptimus tracker system
  • Construction begins for large 30 megawatts photovoltaic plants

Hamburg, November 14, 2007: EPURON, one of the leading development and structured financing companies of large-scale renewable energy projects, inaugurated a photovoltaic plant in southern Spain with a peak output of 2 MW. The solar system is located 5 kilometres from Aledo, near Murcia, and is the second completed project part of a strategic cooperation between EPURON and Panergia. In September, EPURON took over Panergia, a leading Spanish project developer of regenerative energy. The acquisition considerably strengthened EPURON’s position in the Spanish photovoltaics market. By the end of the year, the company plans to install approximately 25 megawatts in Spain. An additional 30 megawatts are being prepared for construction.

The system was erected by EPURON's sister company, SunTechnics, on an area of about 14 hectares. A total of 11,400 Conergy C180 modules on 260 SolarOptimus trackers were used, generating an annual output of 4,100,000 kWh. This amount of power can supply approximately 1,200 four-family households while also saving around 4,000 tonnes of harmful CO2.

At the inauguration ceremony, EPURON introduced the first large-scale system using a SolarOptimus tracking system. This tracker system was developed and manufactured by Conergy. It has a mounting system with two motors that follows the movement of the sun. The motors run the solar module from east to west in vertical alignment with the sun’s movement so that optimal use can be made from sunrise till sunset.
