Investigation starts of feasibility of wind farm at Snowy Plains, NW of Berridale
Taurus Energy News, December 2004

Wind power development company Taurus Energy today announced the start of detailed investigation of a potential wind farm site at Snowy Plains, about 30km north west of Berridale in southern NSW.

Taurus Energy has been measuring the wind speed at the site since April this year, and indications are that it has good potential for a medium-sized wind farm. The wind speed is as high as anywhere in NSW, as well there is already a high voltage transmission line crossing the site and there is good road access.

The proposal is for up to 18 wind turbines, each mounted on a steel tower up to 80m tall.

The proposed wind farm would be able to generate enough green electricity to match the consumption of 10,000 to 12,000 homes.

The proposed wind farm would be much smaller than the proposed developments in the Crookwell region to the north.

Taurus has started preparing a Statement of Environmental Effects to be lodged with a Development Application with Snowy River Shire Council in the first quarter of next year. The Statement of Environmental Effects includes assessments of biodiversity, heritage (European and Aboriginal), visual, noise and other impacts of the proposed wind farm.

Taurus has appointed NGH Environmental, of Bega, to assist in the preparation of the Statement of Environmental Effects and the Development Application.

Taurus Energy is holding an “open house” in Berridale on 16th December at the CWA Hall in Myack St, where everyone is welcome to drop in any time between 2pm and 7pm. Staff from Taurus and NGH Environmental will be available to discuss the project and answer any questions.
