EPURON concludes wind farm development contract with Ucgen
- A Turkish building company engages EPURON for development and consultancy services
- The 14-MW wind farm in Seferihisar should be connected to the grid by 2010
- The contract will enable EPURON to strengthen its position in the emerging Turkish wind energy market
Hamburg, September 3, 2008: EPURON GmbH has concluded a supervision and advisory contract with the Turkish building company Ucgen. The object of the contract is the 14-megawatt wind farm Seferihisar in Turkey which should be connected to the grid by 2010. For this project, EPURON will be in charge of the technical development, selecting the wind energy facilities and negotiating with the manufacturers. EPURON will also offer Ucgen its advice on the project financing and will be entirely responsible for the project management – from the preparation to the construction and the delivery.
This contract will enable EPURON to strengthen its position in the emerging Turkish wind market. Until now wind power facilities with a capacity of only 250 MW have been installed there. The sector expects an average annual growth of 50% until 2012. Together with its cooperation partner ATASEVEN, EPURON has currently submitted ten wind farms to the national energy authority (Energy Market Regulatory Authority) for approval. A decision regarding the number of licenses is expected to be made in 2009.
“We are pleased to be able to use our experience to support a strong partner such as Ucgen. This will also help us further strengthen our position in this very attractive market”, says Joachim Müller, Managing Director of EPURON GmbH. “We thereby ensure that our business activities are in line with our targets:wind, bio and CSP technologies and international markets offering great potential.”
By signing the contract Ucgen will set up an attractive energy technology: “The energy demand in Turkey is increasing all the time, so renewable energies will become more and more important”, explains Mujdat Gunel, General Manager at Ucgen. “EPURON’s support and experience will make it much easier for us to enter the market.”
