The proposed Birrema Wind Farm is to be located on the boundary of the Southern Tablelands and South Western Slopes regions of New South Wales, 30 kilometres west of Yass, and approximately 300 kilometres south west of Sydney. The site is in the vicinity of a number of proposed wind farms including the proposed Conroy’s Gap Wind Farm, and the Marilba Hills and Coppabella precincts of the Yass Valley Wind Farm.
The project would involve the construction and operation of approximately 60 – 80 wind turbines, together with the associated control and maintenance buildings, civil works and electrical infrastructure required to connect into the existing transmission network. The turbines would be placed along a series of ridgelines and hilltops in the area.
Epuron has been monitoring wind speeds at the site since 2010 and is currently looking to install additional wind monitoring to provide an enhanced understanding of wind speeds across the site. Epuron is also reviewing possible locations for wind turbines based on wind speeds and other data.
